Russell Reid brings design and project engineering experience with an end user's point of view. His years of working with AD clients on theatrical, architectural and broadcast lighting combined with his years in theatre in both the academic and community setting provide him with an understanding that enhances his design work. Russ's practical approach to connecting use of the space with design results in venues that are not only appreciated by performers and patrons, but by the technical crews, as well.
Russ is unique in that in addition to lighting and theatrical design, he has an extensive background in information technologies. The mix of skill in design for production technology mixed with cutting-edge IT and network capability give him an insight into custom applications that span disciplines and produce creative solutions including IP based lighting control systems. In addition, his experience as a technical director has provided him with skills and knowledge in a variety of construction based areas including, carpentry, metalwork, and electrical. He has the ability to look at a challenge from many angles and come up with unique solutions that are practical and cost effective. This broad knowledge and experience base gives him a unique ability for holistic thinking which serves him well in the Integrated Project Delivery world. In his own words "Building construction is just like putting together a theatrical production, except that instead of 6-9 weeks and 30-40 people, it takes 1-2 years and hundreds, and a little more money."
Prior to joining AD in 2001, Russ served as the technical director for arts programs at Clemson University , the University of North Texas and the Self Family Arts Center on Hilton Head Island. He also served as an assistant professor for the theatrical department at the University of North Texas.
Russ has a Masters of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University and a BA in Communications and Theatre from the University of Illinois in Chicago. Russ serves as a consultant in our Dallas office.
