The Lucille C. Little Theater at Transylvania University is a technically innovative 11,000-square-foot flat-floored facility with flexible staging options. The theater has movable seating that permits a variety of performance configurations, from traditional seating to theater in the round, and also allows the room to function for a broader range of other uses, including rehearsals.

Variable acoustics are provided in the form of simple curtains, which are retracted or extended, effectively accommodating the wide range of performances and other uses in the theater each year. The room is extremely quiet with almost no excessive systems noise, yet the HVAC distribution design is quite simple and cost-effective.

Technical features of the theater include a computerized lighting and sound system, a removable floor section for traps, and a tension wire grid that allows performers and props to be hoisted and lowered from the ceiling from anywhere in the room.

AD designed a distributed audio system for the Theater that is highly adaptable and capable of reconfiguration to adapt to variations in the seating layouts.
