Acoustic Dimensions performed an acoustical study for two new performance spaces within Andersen Hall of the Manhattan School of Music. The William and Irene Miller Recital hall is considered too dead for its primary use. It is also used for distance learning, master classes and lectures. We provided recommendations to improve the acoustics for recitals, while still providing an acoustical environment that supports these other uses.
The Allan and Joan Taub Ades Performance Space is a multi-faceted hall that has the ability to host various types of events from orchestral rehearsals and opera workshops to musical theatre, chamber music and jazz performances. Although the range of use is broad, no adjustable acoustic features were incorporated into the initial design. There were also significant sound isolation and noise issues that we addressed in our study.
