Room Design AssistanceThe acoustic design of the new Recital Hall will produce a hall of superb acoustic quality, particularly for small to medium sized chamber ensembles, and piano recitals. In addition, the hall must provide excellent conditions for choral rehearsals and performance and for its baroque organ. The necessary variability of acoustic conditions will be achieved through the use of moveable curtains and by partial decoupling of the large volume above the suspended ceiling elements and around the performance platform.
A key ingredient for great acoustics is the absence of any noise. All of the major mechanical and electrical equipment will be housed remotely from the Hall in an area that is acoustically, and hence structurally, independent. This approach will provide the potential for mechanical and electrical systems background noise levels that will be virtually inaudible within the Auditorium, which, in turn, will support the highest possible level of artistry.
