Powell Hall Auditorium
St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
St. Louis, Missouri
Project Type: Audio Renovation
Seat Count: 2,689
Rennovation: 2010
AD Scope: AudioIn 1925 when the building first opened, it was the St. Louis Theatre home to vaudeville shows and motion pictures. In 1968, following an extensive renovation, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra was given it's first permanent home. The acoustics of the hall--originally designed by Cyril Harris--are celebrated for symphonic performance.
As Powell Hall expanded for a wider variety of programming--including performances which involve amplified elements--the SLSO contacted AD to raise the sound quality of the amplified performances to the level of the acoustic ones and to reduce the long-term labor and rental expenses needed to bring in equipment to support these shows.
