The unique challenges of this project were related to the goals and aspirations of the college far exceeding the budget that had been set years before. Fortunately, these challenges were solved by the willingness of all participants to take a proactive approach to communications, coordination, and problem-solving. Architecturally, the reverence shown by the college for the existing building, plus a wish for a fresh identity was particularly challenging. The college desired a bold yet sensitive addition, innovative yet affordable, beautiful yet not ostentatious.
The collaborative team effort between HGA, Donlar Construction, sub-consultants and the owner’s staff and faculty led to an elegant, functional and cost effective building. Acoustic Dimension’s work at St. Benedict was completed in two phases. Phase 1 included renovations and systems upgrades in the existing facility, including new ceilings and lighting. Construction of the Benedicta Arts Center addition was completed between Spring of 2005 and Summer 2006.
