Performance Systems Planning
Hillsong is planning a 500-seat theatre as part of the expansion of the campus. Our objective is to develop a theatre concept design approach that meets Hillsong’s needs within the space and fits into the building envelope as it currently stands. The idea is to take a holistic approach to the design so that the acoustical envelope, theatrical systems and performance technologies concepts are developed at the same time for maximum integration. This approach dramatically reduces the risk of costly construction changes later in the project.
In order to do this with confidence, we are working with Ridley Smith and his design team in collaboration as we develop the design concept. Our 3-D model of the room addresses: basic room shape, ceiling design concepts, seating and sightlines considerations (horizontal and vertical), catwalk layout / tension wire grid/ elevations, audience & stage relationship, stage design and layout, stage house elevations, architectural accommodation of performance systems such as video projection screens, disabled accessibility issues, performance systems control positions and sizes, and layouts and locations for control rooms.
The room is designed to provide an interactive, connected experience for both the performer and audience.
