The City of Columbus has much to celebrate with the exciting re-opening of their historic Lincoln Theatre. The exquisite Egyptian Revival-style theatre was built in 1928 and thrived as a major venue for legendary jazz stars such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, James Brown, MilesDavis, Duke Ellington and Sarah Vaughn among others. In the 60’s it’s doors closed and the theatre lay dormant until it was nearly destroyed by the wrecking ball in the early 90’s. In 1992 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years money was raised to restore this grand building to its once glory. In addition to the 566-seat main stage theatre with a digital projection system; there is a second floor ballroom for 10 resident arts groups with spaces for auditions, rehearsals, performances and classes and a third floor that will house the Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Academy.
The theatre will also be used as a recording studio for both video and audio productions. Acoustic Dimensions provided basic infrastructure for these systems for future inclusion of the recording equipment. Our scope also included A/V technical systems design for the main stage theatre, entry/lobby and backstage support areas.
