News! 06.2008 | Theatre Design & Technology: Mercersburg Academy receives Honor Award from the USITT Architecture Commission.
Acoustic Dimensions provided consulting services for this new arts center for Mercersburg Academy, a private
boarding school for high-school age students. Completed in 2006, the center includes a 600-seat theatre with a
fully-rigged fly tower, a black box theatre, an instrumental rehearsal room/recital hall, and a choral rehearsal room.
The project also includes music teaching studios. The instrumental rehearsal room/recital hall and the choral rehearsal room incorporate adjustable acoustics elements in the form of simple manually-retractable heavy velour curtains, providing for a cost-effective means of adding flexibility. The facility also includes a great deal of special sound isolating construction that was carefully designed to be sensitive to the project’s limited construction budget.
