AD Scope: AcousticsPark Square Theatre is located within the historic Hamm Building in Saint Paul, MN. The theatre recently upgraded their facility. The goals of the upgrade included improvements in sound isolation between the stage and shop. Sound and light lock vestibules were also added between the lobby and the theatre.
The goal of the renovation was to maintain the quality of the existing room acoustics, which is considered to be good, although the renovation did provide the opportunity to improve the clarity and audible impact of the spoken word. This was accomplished in part by adjustments to materials at the top of the proscenium and the removal of carpeting in the seating areas.
The existing building HVAC system noise levels were not problematic but included in the scope of renovations were low-cost adjustments that reduced the background noise levels to near silence thereby further enhancing the acoustics of the theater's programs which are primarily unamplified dramas.
