Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts renovated this privately owned public space on Manhattan’s upper west side
and transformed it into a creative, interdisciplinary public venue that informs, entertains and educates the public. The 8,500-sf project is located at directly across Columbus Avenue from the main Lincoln Center campus. The public facility is named in honor of the philanthropist, financier, and Vice Chairman of Lincoln Center for the Performing arts in recognition of his $10 million gift to Lincoln Center. The acoustic challenge of a public gathering space (including food service) that is also used for small performances and lectures was met through the innovative integration of numerous architectural features which also enhance the room acoustic environment. These features include two vertical gardens, a floor-to-ceiling fountain, and an art installation by Dutch textile artisan Claudy Jongstra with integrated sound-absorptive material.
In addition, Acoustic Dimensions participated in the design of a media wall with performance information, which also serves as a canvas for video presentations, as well as specification of video signage at the day-of-performance reduced-price ticket booths.
