Towson University underwent a major renovation and expansion to their Center for the Arts to create a functional, maintainable and attractive facility that would serve the university well in the 21st century. The project plans included the renovation of the existing facility (approximately 95,000 nsf) and the addition of 122,000 gsf. This consolidated the theater, art, music and dance departments into one facility to promote interaction between the various fine and performing arts departments.
AD established the design criteria for the overall acoustic performance within the renovation and new construction at the Center for the Arts.
Design modifications to wall shaping and ceiling shaping were implemented to meet stringent acoustic requirements set forth for the main stage and concert hall renovations. Improvements to sound isolation and HVAC system noise control were also designed.
The Towson University Center for the Arts has been awarded the 2005 Building of America honor as one of the 50 best new construction projects on the Eastern Seaboard.
