News | VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & George Bernard Shaw Theatre receive 2010 Civic Trust AwardVISUAL and the George Bernard Shaw Theatre is a world-class venue containing the largest exhibition space for contemporary art in Ireland. The centre houses an expansive centrally-located gallery, three smaller galleries and the 350-seat proscenium theatre. The concrete and glass structure, built on the grounds of Carlow College, will attract visitors from around the world and make Carlow a cultural destination for visitors to the country.
With a 12 meter high ceiling, the main gallery has the potential to house large-scale sculptures and installations with a more private studio gallery and black-box gallery for digital art surrounding it. Additionally, the state-of-the art theatre is an ideal location for all performing arts presentations, including concerts, dramas, dance, film and literary readings.
