The drama studio will provide teaching and performance space for the drama program at University College Worcester. It was formed by converting a redundant gymnasium.
Sound isolation from the busy circulation spaces around the studio was provided by forming new sound locks to all of the entrances into the studio. A technical gallery was formed above the main audience entrances and a full-height props store was created at the opposite end of the studio. The large gymnasium windows were blocked up to provide sound isolation, blackout and to address heat gain/loss problems of the old building. We retained one window to provide daylight and fitted it with large acoustical shutters. The changing rooms beside the old gymnasium were converted into dressing rooms.
