Since opening in 1995, General Motors Place has become a staple of downtown Vancouver and one of the premier sports and entertainment facilities in North America. The arena is home to the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League and served as the primary venue for ice hockey in 2010 at the XXI Winter Olympic Games (during that time it was referred to as Canada Hockey Place to comply with IOC rules regarding corporate sponsorships during the Olympics). With 88 luxury suites, 12 hospitality suites and 2195 club seats, GM Place is the main venue for events in Vancouver.

The Canucks Broadcast Department was in need of an outside consultant to review their production capabilities and the remaining useful life of their existing control room and equipment. Acoustic Dimensions’ initial examination included the possibility of continuing with their current analogue room with an eye to technical lifespan, future supportability, production quality with respect to industry standards, the ramifications of not upgrading to new technology and recommendations for future expandability.

Per our recommendations the Canucks organization chose to upgrade their production support spaces as well as their video, audio, and web related production equipment. Acoustic Dimensions serves as the Canucks “Owner’s Representative” in collaboration with a design team composed of the Aquilini Investment Group Inc., False Creek Design Group, and Sony Integration of Canada Ltd. AD was contracted to provide consulting services for the renovation of the video production control room, broadcast audio, web development and edit suites to include all new broadcast video equipment for team in-game production and future broadcasting needs.
