Dodger Stadium Video Production
Los Angeles, California
Systems cost: $2.2 Million
Completion: 2003 Season
Client: Los Angeles Dodgers
AD Scope: Production Layout & Design

For the 2003 season, AD returned to work with the Dodgers on the third phase of renovations to the stadium. Our third year of involvement with the Dodgers incorporated upgrades to the video and scoring displays in the outfield with the expansion and redesign of the live video production suite including all new equipment.
The "Dodger Vision" production control space experienced a remarkable transformation. With a clean ergonomic "luxury suite" layout, greatly enhanced site lines to the field, digital servers, digital VTRs and a digital backbone with dedicated audio and video routing. The control room now facilitates broadcast level production without the feeling of playing Twister in a truck.
The facility infrastructure features 601 Serial Digital terminal equipment with a 2.5 ME Production Switcher and a 32 x 32 video, 4 channel audio router. The new production switcher is capable of VTR and server control, has built-in digital video effects for transitions and picture-in-picture layout effects and also has a 4 channel, 100 frame clip store (video/key) for animated logos and backgrounds. Live production is done in 16:9 aspect ratio for the ballpark's primary display with 4:3 letterboxing generated for external MATV and website distribution.
Three primary "wired" cameras and one wireless camera support productions. External video feeds from the broadcast trucks, such as a center field camera and broadcast program, are converted from analog to SDI and aspect ratio converted to 16:9 for the room's use. Additionally there is a two-channel character generator and four channels of video server used for game slow motion replay, post inning highlights and sponsor / interstitial clip playback.
