The focus for the renovation was on the tail-end of the football stadium's sound reinforcement system—loudspeakers, power amplifiers and processing—to improve sound quality to match the video programming. Designing a system that would not have an adverse impact on nearby residential areas was at the top of the list of design goals. The prior system had generated a number of complaints from nearby residents. Other goals were uniform coverage, overall smoothness, and the capability to deliver full bandwidth music throughout the stadium from a single source location.
AD determined that the most appropriate location for the new loudspeaker cluster would be in the scoreboard structures. This approach presented potential drawbacks: the cluster would be required to deliver sound more than 700-feet with the desired smoothness and fidelity; yet, space inside the scoreboard structure was limited. The solution involved development of new loudspeaker technology. The stadium now enjoys excellent coverage and clarity, without affecting neighboring residents.
