Foot Locker set the cutting edge of a new era in themed retail stores with the opening of their high-tech showroom in the Arsenal Mall in Boston, Massachusetts. The Foot Locker concept utilizes high-impact audio, custom-produced large format video and dynamic lighting.
AD consulted on the design of the sound imaging system and acoustics essential to the high-energy feel of the new stores. The innovative video and show control system was designed to rival that seen in nightclubs and world-class theme parks.
The main area within each prototype store is the "arena." Tall and circular, the focus is a large-format video wall, high-end sound and lighting fixtures on ring trusses and four retail "island" displays outfitted with video monitors and compact loudspeakers. Other displays fan out from this circular base, with lighting, video and sound also distributed throughout these areas. AD designed the system which provides for remote updates of sport features, product promotions or entertainment modules to each store. In addition to the Boston prototype, AD consulted on stores in Oakbrook (Chicago), Illinois; Oveda, Florida; and Stamford, Connecticut.
