When the sun goes down, the Six Flags Fiesta Texas Theme Park puts on the "Lone Star Spectacular," a one-of-a-kind display of lasers, fireworks and music that celebrates the state's rich history. The outdoor show plays to audiences of up to 15,000 to close the park each day. Because the theme park is built inside an old quarry, the cliff face provides an ideal screen on which the show is projected.
Due to the dynamic original musical score, “The Lone Star Spectacular’s” sound system design was driven by the soundtrack.
The original sound system which utilized two loudspeaker clusters located on a cliffside was greatly affected by the wind, causing the sound image to jump radically between the left and right clusters, particularly in the vocal range.
For this reason, AD decided that a left/center/right (LCR) soundstage was in order. Other early decisions included the addition of four full-range surround-sound loudspeaker channels and implementation of the Peavey MediaMatrix. The MediaMatrix system supplies the audio for an eight channel surround system that is able to provide clear sound at very high sound pressure levels.
