A tranquil waterfall during the daylight hours, the Mirage volcano comes to life once darkness falls transforming it into spectacular streams of molten “lava”. Set on a three-acre lagoon, the volcano is a magnificent display of more than 3,000 lights computerized to simulate flowing lava and measuring 50 feet high. At the top of each hour, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, the cascading water begins to churn and a low rumble emerges from the heart of the once-dormant volcano. As the fire dances across the lagoon, those standing close enough can feel the temperature rise.

The volcano at The Mirage has been a Las Vegas signature attraction since the resort opened in 1989, mesmerizing spectators with its thunderous display and circulating 119,000 gallons of water per minute. After almost 20 years of use, the sound system is in need of an update to add to the believability of the event, which includes multiple source locations.

For the 2008 renovation of the attraction, Acoustic Dimensions designed the system to provide even sound coverage for the outdoor areas including speaker system design, amplifiers, DSP, automated control audio and the conduit that connects them. The speaker system is designed to integrate with the theming.
