NBBJ is leading the design team for a planned $125 million renovation and expansion of Pauley Pavilion at UCLA. Pauley Pavilion, which opened in 1965, has a rich heritage given its role as the on-campus home court to the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball, gymnastics and volleyball programs. The campus landmark has served as the home court for 38 NCAA championship teams, hosted renowned entertainers including Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti, welcomed the world during the 1984 Olympics, hosted a 1988 presidential debate and staged commencement ceremonies for thousands of UCLA alumni. The planned renovation would add modern arena amenities and improve the fan experience.
Acoustic Dimensions designed the acoustics, audio and video systems. The renovation included accommodations for a new centerhung video display and 360 degrees of fascia LED boards; new speaker system for the arena seating, concourses, and restrooms; AV systems for a new team meeting room, player lounges, and Stadium Club; a unique donor wall incorporating the new Christie MircoTiles as a display element; and acoustics design. The complete design process was conducted over a 20 month window, and the renovations are slated to be complete by summer 2012.
