The U.S. Naval Academy’s Wesley Brown Fieldhouse is designed to be a world-class facility for physical education, varsity and intramural athletics, club sports, personal fitness and includes a centralized medical facility within proximity to outdoor fields. The facility is named after Lt. Cmdr. Wesley Brown, USN (ret.), the first African-American midshipman to graduate from the Naval Academy in 1949. The athletic program plays a key role in the mission of the U.S. Naval Academy to develop Midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to prepare them to assume the responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.
Acoustic Dimensions designed the acoustics, environmental noise control, audio systems, video infrastructure and MATV systems. Noise transmission from the field house to the nearby Bancroft Hall, the home for the entire brigade of 4,000 midshipmen, was a critical concern due to the ongoing USNA Brigade activities. With that in mind, AD analyzed the arena design, site conditions, distances and activities scheduled in the field house to meet the goals of not exceeding NC-35 within Bancroft Hall from noise emanating from the field house.
