As design plans were developing at Grace Community Church, the team had one request above all others. The desire to create a space that fostered intimacy among the congregants as well as the worship leaders. While the initial assumption was that a 5,000 seat auditorium would be necessary to accommodate the church’s rapid growth, the team at Grace has pursued a master plan based on multiple smaller worship venues rather than one large one. Working in conjunction with Callahan Studios and Sound Technology Consultants this phased plan has involved creating new spaces as well as the re-purposing of existing ones. Phase 1 of the project has included the construction of a 1,700 seat worship space.
The main worship space at Grace Community Church (South Auditorium) is considered a distinctive space. While more or less a ‘box’, great care was taken to design a space that is flexible, visually inspiring, and offers the high quality worship experience that Grace was seeking. Noticeable right away is the fact that there is no raised platform and sightlines are all clear. Some subtle features include electronically variable acoustics, controllable day-lighting, and integrated camera positions. The technical systems include 9 high definition video screens, a cross-matrixed L/C/R speaker system, motorized rigging, and an extensive theatrical lighting system.
