First Baptist Church has worshipped and served in downtown Bryan since 1850, but in 2000 the congregation voted to relocate the church facilities to a 32-acre tract of land more centrally located between the cities of Bryan and College Station—the home of Texas A&M.
The church assembled a relocation planning team to develop requirements for new church facilities for inclusion in a master plan developed by HKS. The initial plan called for the development of a new 1,250-seat worship center. It is designed to best utilize the land and meet the requirements of the church’s programs and ministries in every age group from newborns to adults. The ultimate plan for the site will include a 2,500-seat worship center with balanced education, recreation and support facilities.
Acoustic Dimensions provided design for the interim sanctuary concerning acoustics, room shaping, seating, backstage planning, audio and video projection systems and theatrical and architectural lighting. Additionally, distributed audio and video were required in the foyer and backstage area. Other design services included sound isolation and noise control backstage and in the interim a/v studio and theatrical lighting design for the fellowship hall.
