While in Edina, Grace held its contemporary and traditional services in separate buildings. For their new facility in Eden Prairie they asked for an auditorium where both types of services could be held. AD installed fins in the ceiling to enhance the traditional service. These fins reflect the singing from the congregation back down to the congregation, thus creating a feeling of warmth and participation in the room. Schuler and Shook designed curtains to create a different acoustic atmosphere for the contemporary service. The infrastructure of the room also enables it to be used for two different types of services. AD recommended a digital console that can instantly recall different service types that are programmed into it. This allows for quick break down and set up between services.
AD designed the auditorium room, the platform, the adjacent rooms and the ceiling. The ceiling is unique in that it is completely isolated and acts as a sealant for the room from the roof. This was done to prevent sound from a nearby airport from disrupting the services.
Grace’s video, sound and acoustics system is designed for regular services and large events. A left/center/right sound system was designed which works well with both contemporary and traditional services.
The system is controlled by an audio digital mixing console that can regulate sound for regular worship activities yet also accommodate more sophisticated needs for concerts and theatrical productions. Additionally, two 16’ x 28’ wide-screen format projection screens to support IMAG video have been installed on either side of the stage. For groups that may want to record their performances, the facilities include a new orchestra/audio-video recording room.
