Phase 4 of Johns Creek’s building program called for construction of a new worship center to accomodate 2,300 people, a large choir and a new pipe organ. Choir and orchestra are a significant part of the worship program at the church. And while it was important for the sanctuary to support natural acoustics for the organ and choir, it still needed to maintain speech intelligibility from the platform. AD worked with CDH Partners on the shape and layout of the room, seating, sightlines, platform and backstage.
This phase of the building project also included design of a new foyer, backstage area and a basic A/V studio. The lobby needed to maintain a welcoming feel to support community and backstage is used for weekly services as well as seasonal productions. Therefore, efficient design of the space was necessary to allow for the flow of people and seamless transitions onstage and to support the broad range of activities planned for the auditorium. Plans also called for a choir rehearsal room, youth worship and lounge spaces. AD provided design for acoustics, audio systems, video projection and lighting throughout the new facility. Distributed audio and video systems were needed in the lobby and youth lounge, as well as, plans for a basic A/V studio for IMAG video and archival recording.
