The biggest challenge acoustically was the size of the auditorium. AD designed seating plans efficiently in order to minimize the footprint of the room. A raised seating area on the main level in connection with the balcony makes the space feel smaller improving sightlines and enhancing a sense of community. Another way we accomplished connectivity is by wrapping the seating around the sides of the room. A side benefit to this is that the people near the walls provide sound absorption.
Our concept for the sound system is to provide high power, full range sound with a high degree of flexibility. A multi-channel system was appropriate to facilitate the programming goals of the church. A center speaker cluster mounted over the downstage lip provides high intelligibility from a single point source, ideal for reinforcing vocals. The left and right speaker clusters were designed to reinforce musical performance. This system design concept provided for excellent support of the church’s theatrical style productions and “Saturday Nights in Dallas” concert series as well as meeting the production needs of Sunday and midweek services.
