Prestonwood renovated a multiuse space to create the Big City Theatre, the official meeting place for the 4th - 6th grade ministry.
The roomed is designed to be a completely engaging environment. The Big City begins the moment the kids exit the elevators and are met with a life size bus. After checking in with security, there is a row of N64™ games or the City Hall where kids can hang out and socialize with their friends before the program starts.
The doors to the Big City Theater open with a rush of music and lights, and the Roof Top Kids worship team leads worship with the Big City band or even special guests like Jump 5 or Phat Chance, popular contemporary Christian boy bands. All of this exciting drama is created with equally exciting audio, lighting and video systems.
The audio system is designed for realistic imaging. To achieve this effect the main stage left and right speakers are located behind the video screens. Speech on the main stage and the two side stages also have individual left and right speakers.
The video system has THX certified Microperf screens to allow the sound to come through them. They use DVD & VHS playback. Conduit is provided for IMAG capability with ties to the existing video production facilities so the room can be used for overflow space in the future.
In looking toward the future, a small video switcher in the orginal control booth was upgraded to support two video rolls so that preproduced video characters can talk to each other. The speaker design will allow sound to image with the video.
The lighting was designed for both wash lights and concert lighting. It is designed so that they can add moving lights in future upgrades.
The control booth is portable because the room can be divided. This gives added flexibility in the orientation.
