The worship facility for Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church, which opened in 1999, was designed to support “ancient future” worship. While the room does quite well for choral music and acoustic performance, the church’s use of amplified music fought with the space. In addition, speech intelligibility was compromised.
Acoustic Dimensions was asked to evaluate the audio system and carry out acoustical testing, followed by providing recommendations and associated budgets for improvement. The highly ornate ceiling in the sanctuary, initially suggesting a traditional style of worship, is contrasted by the more contemporary feeling created by an “in the round” seating layout.
Upgrades to the sound system included adding front fills for the benefit of those sitting in the first three rows, overhead choir monitors, specifying a new digital mixing console, equalization of the existing main speakers and retuning the side-firing speakers to improve coverage. Additionally, acoustically absorptive panels were added to key spots that were reflecting sound back into the room.
