The 500-seat multipurpose room that is part of Phase 3a of their master building plan moves Watermark closer to completing their campus vision.
The multipurpose space at Watermark had some interesting design challenges when it came to incorporating technology and acoustics. Glass on the two far ends of the room could have caused issues with not only light, but with acoustics. Floor-to-ceiling curtains were installed behind the stage to provide an absorptive element on for acoustics, additional light control, as well as a more interesting backdrop. Technology integration required a very high level of coordination. Some examples of this include: lighting positions that were aligned front to back in the room to blend with the wood plank ceiling; speakers that protrude very slightly below the ceiling to maintain the clean ceiling lines; projectors share a shelf above the ceiling with mechanical diffusers so that they are hidden from the audience; drawers were incorporated under the stage to provide for a/v storage.
The results of this coordination is a room that is very functional yet allows the architecture, not the technology, to define the character of the room.
