Worship at Windsor Crossing Community Church (WCCC) has a contemporary edge with dramas and multi-media presentations used to support the message. The atmosphere at WCCC is relaxed, and the mission is to reach both believers and non-believers with Bible-based teaching that relates to daily life.
To help achieve this mission, WCCC has built a new worship facility on 35 acres of land. Phase 1 of the project included a worship center that seats 800 and a children’s wing. Phase 2 of the building project will include expanding the worship center by another 150-200 seats and the addition of a youth room and 2 more children’s rooms.
Since growth was expected, the 800-seat worship center was designed with future expansion in mind. When it is time to expand, the house right wall will be torn down to enlarge the room by 150-200 extra seats. The design of the video and lighting systems also took the expansion into account.
Oversized video screens with an aspect ration of 16x9 were recommended to be used in the worship center because of the unique asymmetry of the room. The large screens give video a very prominent place in worship now, and will be suitable for the larger room when it is expanded.
Lighting was also designed for expansion. Limited lighting was installed in the room because of budget constraints, but the design allows for additional power, dimming and fixtures to be added when the room expands.
Windsor Crossing’s worship style is very contemporary with a heavy emphasis on their worship band. Because of this, an alternating left right speaker system was installed.
Acoustics also had to be suitable for this type of worship. The acoustical design of the room includes absorption on the back and sides of the room. There are also segmented ceiling clouds that not only absorb sound above the ceiling, they also reflect the sound in the worship center back into the congregation. The segmented ceiling clouds also hide the catwalks and only allow the lights to be seen.
Phase 2 is now in the design phase.
